21 aspiring young filmmakers from 13 countries direct digital shorts spotlighting the stories of female trailblazers to inspire the next generation to follow their dreams
BURBANK, Calif. (October 10, 2018) – Ahead of International Day of the Girl (October 11), Disney today launched a new global video series offering advice and inspiration on achieving success for the next generation of young leaders around the globe. The #DreamBigPrincess video series, produced and directed by young women from the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up initiative, shares the stories of 20 trailblazing women across technology, entertainment, medicine, law, sports, arts, science, fashion and politics to show the next generation what’s possible if you dream big.
“Dreaming big is one of the most important things any of us can do – to keep aiming higher,” says Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, who was interviewed for the series by Maud Webster, age 16, from the UK. “The #DreamBigPrincess series is giving a voice to a group of talented young women, helping them tell stories that kids can learn from, whatever their ambition.”
Disney provided mentorship support for the 21 Girl Up leaders from different corners of the globe as they captured the stories of a diverse group of role models in digital shorts. Each video will be shared across Disney’s global media platforms as part of a campaign to unlock up to a $1 million donation to Girl Up, an initiative of the UN Foundation to support girls’ leadership.
“We have the responsibility to hand that baton of self-belief and positivity to the next generation,” says Jo Malone CBE, Entrepreneur and Founder of Jo Loves, who was interviewed by Bethel Kyeza, age 16. “Storytelling can help us believe that no matter who we are or where we come from, we have every right to write the story of our own life and fulfill it.”
“There’s a line in Mary Poppins where she says anything is possible, even the impossible. I think that really symbolizes what dreaming big is all about, the idea if you want something big enough that the universe is going to conspire to give it to you,” says Emily Blunt, Golden Globe Award-winning actress who was interviewed by Marisa Torre, age 17.

Kathleen Kennedy – Film producer and president of Lucasfilm, has produced more than 60 films, including three of the highest-grossing movies in motion picture history.
Leia Mi – Art director for Shanghai Disneyland who creates concept designs and provides art direction for Shanghai Disney Resort, was a creative designer at Walt Disney Imagineering.
Maria Teresa Ruiz – Chilean astronomer, the first woman to study astronomy at the University of Chile, the first female scientist to receive a PhD in astrophysics from Princeton University and the first woman to receive Chile’s National Prize for Exact Sciences.
Martina Stoessel – Actress and singer who played the leading role on the internationally successful Disney Channel telenovela Violetta, first Argentine singer to reach one million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours for her single “Te Quiero Mas.”
Monica Lopez Hidalgo – Accomplished professor and researcher of neuroscience, one of the winners of the L’Oréal Unesco Conacyt AMC 2017 Scholarships for Women in Science for her research on the deterioration of cognitive functions related to age.
Ndifanji Namacha – Medical doctor and assistant lecturer of public health, Malaria No More UK youth ambassador, delivered a keynote speech at the 2018 Malaria Summit in London.
Paola Carosella – Award-winning chef and restaurateur, opened her first restaurant in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2001, has appeared as a judge on MasterChef Brazil since 2014.

“The #DreamBigPrincess series documents a host of inspiring stories and diverse experiences, but the common message is clear,” says Zenia Mucha, Senior Executive Vice President, Communications, The Walt Disney Company. “Having a big dream is the first step on the path to success, and positive role models are critical in helping you continue on that journey – whether that’s a fictional entrepreneur like Tiana or a real-world success story like any of the women in this series.”
The aspiring filmmakers embarked on their creative journeys back in July, with ongoing mentorship from Disney, Apple and female-led production company Summerjax ahead of the series debut. Each video was shot on iPhone X and edited using Final Cut Pro X running on MacBook Pro.
“It’s important to have role models – and by role models I mean the 21 girls that are part of the ‘Dream Big, Princess’ project – out there to inspire other girls,” says Susan Prescott, Vice President of Product Marketing at Apple, who was interviewed by Jessica Zhang, age 16. “I think it’s important to recognize their talents, let them have a voice and show the great things they can do.”
Through Disney’s collaboration with Girl Up, the #DreamBigPrincess campaign aims to make a tangible difference for girls who face challenges in achieving their dreams. For each like or share of a video or photo posted publicly with #DreamBigPrincess on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, Disney Worldwide Services will donate US $1 to Girl Up in support of girls’ leadership and empowerment (minimum donation: $500,000/maximum donation: $1 million). This charitable initiative kicks off today and runs until November 20, 2018.
“Last year’s donation from Disney has already had a huge impact, allowing us to extend our network of Girl Up clubs outside the US by more than 50%, giving more girls the leadership skills they need to advocate for themselves and others,” says Girl Up Co-Executive Director, Melissa Kilby. “We’re so proud of the series that our young Girl Up leaders have created and hope people around the world will play their part in supporting the rights of girls by liking and sharing them on social media.”
This year’s video series builds on the success of the #DreamBigPrincess Global Photography series, which saw 19 female photographers from 15 countries capture inspiring stories of real-world women and girls to encourage kids to reach for their goals. The campaign reached millions of families around the world unlocking a $1 million donation to Girl Up in less than five days. The images from the multi-award-winning campaign were also honored with an exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
The initiative is part of Disney’s ongoing Dream Big, Princess campaign that encourages kids everywhere to dream big by highlighting key story moments and inspiring qualities that each Disney Princess showcases through her adventures, such as Merida’s bravery, Cinderella’s kindness or Tiana’s perseverance. Disney is committed to helping today’s youth create the future they imagine by providing them with inspiration and opportunity through transformative programming, of which this campaign is an example.

Disney stores nationwide will also celebrate the launch of the initiative with in-store Dream Big, Princess events on Saturday, October 13th.

Coming in 2019: City Works Located at Disney Springs

Bottleneck Management to open City Works Eatery & Pour House location at Disney Springs in summer of 2019

Reimagined Port of Entry Welcomes Guests to New Restaurants, Amenities at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Table-service dining, marketplace, pool bar and more unveiled at Walt Disney World Resort island-themed getaway
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2018) – Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a place to relax in comfort as life slows to a leisurely pace amid lush surroundings and the sound of steel drums drifting through the air. Now with a new port of entry and lobby to explore and enjoy, as well as three new food and beverage locations, the resort offers more ways than ever before for guests to embrace the island spirit of the Caribbean.
Reimagined Old Port Royale
The Old Port Royale complex has been reimagined as a new port of entry for Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. It’s a centralized and convenient location for services, amenities and three new dining options. Guests arrive at Old Port Royale via an all-new porte-cochere, where they are welcomed into a colorfully reappointed lobby under an open-trussed roof and a colonnade with floor-to-ceiling drapes. Friendly cast members are waiting in this open and communal environment to help guests check in to their rooms, answer questions, offer advice to help them better enjoy their stays and more.
Guests who choose to linger in the new lobby may rest in lounge-style seating areas with handmade furnishings. Or they may choose to stock up for their island adventures in the new Calypso Trading Post, offering favorite Disney merchandise and everything they need for their vacation.
Sebastian’s Bistro
As Sebastian would say, “life is the bubbles” at his new Caribbean-inspired table-service restaurant featuring warm island hospitality and waterfront views. Guests will feel as though they’ve stepped into a tropical beachfront home, where every detail celebrates the natural beauty of the region – from coral patterns and kelp filigree to lure-inspired art and nautical designs.
The tantalizing menu blends Latin and Caribbean flavors into bright, fresh tastes ranging from seafood and steak to salads, sandwiches and burgers. Signature items include:

Skirt steak “chimichurri” with crispy yuca
Citrus-stuffed sustainable whole fish with turmeric brown rice and cilantro-lime vinaigrette
Sautéed shrimp and tamales with roasted peppers and salsa verde
Arepa with slow-cooked pork and chili-mango barbecue sauce
Crispy avocado-and-bacon burger with chimichurri and pico de gallo

Vegan options include an island curry “eggless” salad sandwich on multi-grain bread, as well as a plant-based banh mi sandwich with pickled vegetables. To finish the meal, tropical fruits elevate decadent desserts, including:

Sebastian’s Bistro also offers island-inspired cocktails with Caribbean rums, as well as a customizable rum flight.
Centertown Market
This fast-casual restaurant transports guests to an indoor island street market. Guests enter under a large, palapa-like structure modeled after a traditional Caribbean thatched roof. As they stroll beneath glowing colored light pendants, guests will discover a diverse menu of family-friendly fare. Centertown Market specializes in customizable Latin- and Caribbean-inspired dishes; with these made-to-order bowls, guests choose their base, protein and sauce, available for both breakfast and dinner.
Centertown Market also features farm-to-table salads, Sicilian-style pizza and a variety of sandwiches and burgers. Those craving something sweet may indulge in an assortment of custom tarts and other delectable morsels. Children will be thrilled by Pirate Mickey waffles and French toast for breakfast, and chicken breast nuggets, tacos and grilled cheese for dinner. There’s also an egg popper – a hard-boiled egg pop with green pirate juice, roasted pineapple and bacon.
The market’s expansive beverage island features Coca-Cola freestyle machines, freshly brewed coffee and a selection of teas. Draft beer and single-serve wine and cocktails are also available. And for those who are excited to get moving, a grab-and-go market offers specialty coffee and quick bites.
Banana Cabana Pool Bar
It’s always “island time” at this festive pool-side bar that immerses guests in relaxed Caribbean living. Banana Cabana offers exclusive cocktails with premium spirits, including the Pink Guava Colada with rum, guava purée, pineapple juice and cream of coconut. Kraken Punch mixes black spiced rum with blood orange sour and pomegranate and orange juices.
Caribbean beers are also available, along with a variety of craft and traditional beers, as well as premium white and red wines. Deadline Approaching Soon to Apply for Disney Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World Resort

Submit application by Oct. 31 for a chance to be one of 100 high school students selected for all-expenses-paid mentoring experience of a lifetime
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Oct. 31, 2018, will be last day to apply for the Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence magazine. This annual outside-the-classroom mentoring program is scheduled for March 21-24, 2019, at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The program helps 100 select high school students, ages 13-19, from across the United States jump-start their life goals and pursue their dreams. In 2019, Walt Disney World Resort Offers More to See, Do, Taste and Experience Than Ever Before

New and limited-time shows, parties, character experiences and more begin in January across all four parks
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Sept. 20, 2018) – With a host of new and limited-time magic debuting in 2019 at Walt Disney World Resort, now, more than ever it’s time to plan a trip to the place where dreams come true.
Starting Jan. 18 and continuing well into 2019, Walt Disney World will unveil a collection of shows, parties, Disney character interactions and more that will evoke guests’ passions for fun and adventure, and allow them to cherish time with family and friends.
All of these new experiences will happen while Walt Disney World is in the midst of its most significant growth of the past two decades, including the recent debuts of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration Arrives at Magic Kingdom Park
The fun begins Jan. 18 when Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration kicks off at Magic Kingdom Park, honoring those true originals, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, with new entertainment, merchandise and specialty food and beverage. A highlight of the celebration will be the new “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party.” Several times daily, this colorful procession will parade up Main Street, U.S.A. toward Cinderella Castle, where guests will be invited to join in the energetic dance party. Singing hosts will keep things hopping with modern remixes of favorite “Mickey Mouse Club” melodies and more. Joining Mickey and Minnie in all the fun will be a bevy of beloved Disney characters, including Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Max, Chip ’n Dale and others.
All of the Main Street, U.S.A. residents are eager to be part of this special Surprise Celebration. From Jan. 18 to Sept. 30, the Dapper Dans, the Casey’s Corner piano player and others will honor Mickey and Minnie with special musical moments throughout the day. And during the celebration, guests will be delighted to find other surprise, limited-time magical experiences popping up all around Magic Kingdom.

Party with Pixar Pals and More as Disney’s Hollywood Studios Marks 30 Years
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is transforming into a place where guests experience their own adventures in the immersive worlds of their cinematic imaginations. This reimagining of the park came to life in 2018 with the debut of Toy Story Land, an 11-acre immersive land dedicated to Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story films. As Disney’s Hollywood Studios prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary May 1, now, more than ever, Pixar pals in the park will ensure 2019 is a blockbuster year.
Beginning Jan. 18, Pixar Place will transform into a Municiberg city block from Pixar’s Incredibles films. Guests will meet super suit designer Edna Mode and see some of her greatest creations. They will look for clues to the whereabouts of the youngest Incredible, the mischievous and multi-powered Jack-Jack. And at the end of the block, guests will celebrate the heroic deeds of Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone, who will make appearances throughout the day during a party featuring lively music, dancing, interactive games and lots more Super fun.
Also starting Jan. 18, two popular guest favorites return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios when a door to the monster world opens inside Walt Disney Presents, welcoming Mike and Sulley from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
And then in spring 2019, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will speed into Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new show experience will welcome guests to the world of Pixar’s Cars films, bringing them face to face with racing legend Lightning McQueen. As the next generation of rookie racers, guests will learn from Lightning’s years of experience on the track. This will be the untold story of Lightning McQueen … as told by Lightning McQueen!
Honor 25 Years of ‘The Lion King’ at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
It’s been 25 years since Simba, Timon, Rafiki and all the other treasured characters from Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Lion King” first roared into our hearts. In 2019, guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be able to celebrate the classic animated film more than ever.
Each day from Jan. 18 to Sept. 30, guests will feel the love during the “Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party,” a raucous celebration where young adventurers will let their inner animals roam free on the dance floor. Timon and Rafiki will engage everyone in entertaining dances and games inspired by “The Lion King,” as wildly talented musicians provide the perfect soundtrack in a World Beat style.
Also from Jan. 18 to Sept. 30, guests will imagine themselves in scenes from the film via new three-dimensional photo opportunities at the park. These backdrops will allow guests to re-create iconic “Lion King” moments ideal for sharing on social media platforms.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom has come alive in a whole new way in recent years. Since its debut in 2017, Pandora – The World of Avatar has captured guests’ hearts and filled them with a sense of wonder. Most recently named one of the “World’s Greatest Places” by TIME magazine, Pandora invites adventurers to a faraway planet filled with floating mountains, flying banshees and bioluminescent foliage. Other new offerings include the Rivers of Light nighttime show and a twilight trek on Kilimanjaro Safaris, both of which allow guests to see and experience the park in new ways.
More Live Music Than Ever for Epcot Arts and Flower & Garden Festivals
Festive fun is returning to Epcot throughout 2019, beginning with the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, Jan. 18-Feb. 25. This stirring extravaganza invites guests to indulge in world-class cuisine, remarkable visual art and an extraordinary lineup of live entertainment.
This year, the Disney on Broadway Concert Series expands to seven days a week during the festival, providing even more opportunities than ever before to bask in live Disney magic. Each week, different pairs of Disney on Broadway stars will take to the America Gardens Theatre stage to sing favorite songs from award-winning Disney on Broadway productions. Song choices will derive from the singers’ repertoires, and the lineup will rotate regularly.
Welcome spring’s arrival with the 2019 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, returning March 6-June 3. For more fun than ever, the Garden Rocks Concert Series expands to seven days a week in 2019, offering a mixture of new artists and returning favorites. With three concerts per day for all 90 days of the festival, Garden Rocks will deliver an amazing 270 concerts next year at the America Gardens Theatre.

A Fond Farewell for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth
After nearly 20 years of delighting Epcot guests through music, fireworks, fire torches and more, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be ending in the second half of 2019 to make way for an all-new nighttime spectacular. Guests will want to spend another evening around World Showcase Lagoon to celebrate this classic show that has entertained millions of guests since its October 1999 debut.
The Disney Parks Live Entertainment team is already creating new thrills for World Showcase Lagoon; details on the future of nighttime entertainment at Epcot will be released at a later date. The new show will keep true to the original vision of the park and will be part of the park’s exciting evolution.

All-New Nighttime Fireworks Spectacular to Replace IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth as Part of the Transformation of Epcot

(Sept. 17, 2018) – After nearly 20 years of delighting Epcot guests through music, fireworks, fire torches and more, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be ending in the second half of 2019. The Disney Parks Live Entertainment team is already busy creating new thrills to debut immediately following the conclusion of IllumiNations, continuing the tradition of nightly entertainment on the World Showcase Lagoon.
IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, which is currently planned to run to the end of summer 2019, has entertained millions of guests since it debuted in October 1999 as part of the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration. During the coming year, guests will have plenty of time to experience the nighttime spectacular again and again as excitement builds for what’s next.
Epcot is undergoing a multi-year transformation, with new experiences that will excite guests while keeping true to the original vision of the park. Minnie Van Service Whisks Guests Around Walt Disney World Resort in Comfort and Style

Request rides in colorful vehicles to locations all across Disney property; shuttles to and from Orlando International Airport also available
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Only at Walt Disney World Resort will guests find a fleet of colorfully decorated, Disney-operated vehicles inspired by the polka-dot dress made famous by Minnie Mouse. The appropriately named Minnie Van service is one of the many ways guests can travel comfortably and conveniently around the 40-square-mile resort.
The Minnie Van service is accessible via the Lyft app, where guests request, track and pay for their personal rides all from their mobile devices. Once guests confirm their pickup location and hit “Request,” the app displays a map tracking the Minnie Van on its way, providing an identifying number to help them spot the vehicle. A Minnie Van usually arrives within a few minutes.
Each playfully themed van holds up to six passengers and comes equipped with two children’s car seats. Vans can also accommodate guests with wheelchairs and motorized vehicles (additional wait times may occur).
Minnie Vans are a relaxing and quick way to travel across Walt Disney World Resort, from resort hotels to theme parks to Disney Springs and points in between. Minnie Van drivers are Disney cast members who are knowledgeable and friendly, ensuring guests get where they need to go safely and easily.
In addition, Minnie Van service airport shuttle transports guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel to and from Orlando International Airport. To reserve an airport shuttle, guests can call 407-WDW-PLAY (939-7529); this service is not available via Lyft. Minnie Van airport shuttle vehicles can accommodate up to three children’s car seats and are ADA accessible.
